You Call Me Doctor

Doctor.

You say that's me.
I'm not so sure.
It says "MD" on my name tag.
So I guess it must be true.

I have to let you in on a little secret.
Right now I'm just pretending.
In truth,
I don't know what I'm doing.
Or at least it feels that way.

It's July.
You shouldn't come to the hospital in July.
All these fresh faces.
All these new doctors.

I don't even know the way to the bathroom.

You call me "Doctor"
but it feels like
Halloween.

  1. I'm sure you are great! Just be nice to the nurse and they will help! I am sure they are much less threatening than the attending.... :)

  2. Everyone starts as a newbie in their jobs. You have more experience than many. You are an awesome new doctor! But please find out where the bathroom is and please put snacks in your pockets!

  3. I'm with Jane. You're my little Rockstar, and you're awesome at what you do.

Snacks are a priority. You need to keep your energy up (and not waste away on me).

Also, find the bathroom, and at least one alternate. Patients and colleagues will likely take you more seriously when you're not doing the "pee-pee dance".

  5. I know exactly how you feel! Well, maybe not exactly, but I'm doing a pharmacy residency (and I'm engaged to a soldier serving in Afghanistan this year), so I kind of know where you're coming from. You'll be fine!

  6. That seriously made me laugh. July - the month that internships start, and the month residents become staff...definitely stay away from hospital ;)

Hubby is inprocessing his new duty station right now, even 5 years of "doctor", it doesn't matter when you are the new kid on the block...fun stuff, that month of July.
